The graduates are expected to: Have acquired knowledge, skills and attitude to diagnose and to holistically manage the patient and family (and society) and wellness, ensuring always the respect for ethics and law.



Communicate effectively with patients and their families, health professionals and community at large.



Apply principles of disease prevention and health promotion o enhance the health of individuals and the community.

Mission

To be an esteemed discipline to produce highly-motivated and accomplished medical professionals practicing holistic approach in preventive medicine, enabling them to lead the medical profession and to influence the medical practice worldwide

To be the Centre of Excellence:

  • For undergraduate and postgraduate specialist/higher specialist training in preventive medicine.

  • In promoting population health and preventive education.

  • For the formulation of policies in the practice of medicine and development of the profession.

Vision

​Population health and preventive medicine discipline coordinates all programs related to public health and preventive medicine. Presently, the discipline units comprise of epidemiology, biostatistics, health management, occupational safety and health, environmental health, family health and health promotion.

​

The discipline is headed by a discipline coordinator and is under the medical sciences cluster. The discipline aims to provide comprehensive knowledge on health issues in the population and health delivery systems.

​

Besides knowledge, the discipline also provide skills to future doctors in disease prevention and health promotion while developing positive attitudes and practices to the future doctors in conducting research.
